  8. Architecture: any
  9. Depends: ${shlibs:Depends}
  10. Description: Tool to replay saved tcpdump files at arbitrary speeds
  11. Tcpreplay is aimed at testing the performance of a NIDS by
  12. replaying real background network traffic in which to hide
  13. attacks. Tcpreplay allows you to control the speed at which the
  14. traffic is replayed, and can replay arbitrary tcpdump traces. Unlike
  15. programmatically-generated artificial traffic which doesn't
  16. exercise the application/protocol inspection that a NIDS performs,
  17. and doesn't reproduce the real-world anomalies that appear on
  18. production networks (asymmetric routes, traffic bursts/lulls,
  19. fragmentation, retransmissions, etc.), tcpreplay allows for exact
  20. replication of real traffic seen on real networks.
